Langkawi, on Northwestern shore of Malaysia is a archipelago of Langkawi Islands. Situated Just where the Indian Ocean narrows down into the Straits of Melaka,it was once a heaven for pirates. Today it serves as a retreat for visitors near and far.

Nestled againts a dramatic backdrop of mountains are ancient lakes and forests, waterfalls and beaches, all of which enhance the wonder that is Langkawi.Blessed with blamy climate that promises warm temperatures throughout the year,it beckons visitors seeking escape from day to day life.

The acrhipelago of Langkawi contains 99 Islands awaiting discovery and that is when the tide is high! At low tide, the Islands can number as many as 104. Sanctuary of some of the most ancient rainforest in the world, they are teeming with the exotic flora and fauna.

The largest island of Langkawi itself, measuring about 478.5 sq km,is the only one with real settelment. Almost as large as the island of Singapore, it is still very much undeveloped. Clad with jungles in the interior, it is fringed by lovely beaches scattered along its coast. The island is still very much a rural landscape with villages and padi fields. The island is steeped in legend, the favourite being the one of Mahsuri.

Most of the development is in the main town of Kuah nad in isolated beach resorts around the coast. The airport is located on this island as well hotel resorts, restaurants and shops.

The two main beaches, Pantai Cenang and Pantai Kok, are on the island`s western coast, with Pantai Cenang being the most popular as the vanue for hotels and restaurants. Dotted along the northern coast are the most luxurious resorts.

Your Dreamland.....

Beautifully unspoilt, Langkawi's rugged beauty and local legends offer an irresistible combination of cultural and natural attractions.

It's an ideal place to discover the great outdoors. Play golf, go snorkelling, visit the marine park, charter a boat or take a cable car to the top of the mountain..

Carefully developed by the Malaysian government, considerable funds have been spent developing excellent roads, modern shopping centres, new marinas and impressive resort hotels. Langkawi's Duty Free status has also created some excellent shopping opportunities!

Langkawi also hosts a number of international events including the Tour de Langkawi, an annual cycling competition starting in Langkawi and ending in Kuala Lumpur; The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Show (LIMA) and the annual Royal Langkawi Regatta which draws boats from all over the world.

Where To Stay

The western beaches of Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah and Pantai Kok - are the most popular beaches on Langkawi, with wide choice of accommodation, restaurants and eateries. Datai and Burau bay surrounded by stunning tropical rainforest provide the location for luxury resorts and one of the most stunning golf courses in Asia

Whether it's an idyllic honeymoon or family holiday, Langkawi offers some unforgettable sights and experiences...

Places to visit in Langkawi

There are many interesting places in Langkawi that you can visit, most of these places can be visited by hiring a taxi, self drive car hire, rent bikes or participate in tour packages offered by travel agencies. There are also some activities that require you to rent a boat. Among the interesting places to visit which I suggest are Cabel Car, Mangrove Tour, Island Hoping, Payar Island Marine Park, Mahsuri Tomb, Chenang Beach-water sports, Eagle Square, Fishing Trip, Day Cruise & Sunset Cruise and Chenang Beach-night bazaar. However, there are many other interesting places that you can visit.

MANGROVE TOUR

Mangrove tour is the activity that you should not miss while in Langkawi. You will be taken to places of interest during this visit such as Bat Cave, Crocodile Cave, Floating Fish Farm and eagle feeding.

LANGKAWI CABLE CAR & SKY BRIDGE

Langkawi Cable Car and Sky Bridge is a very worthwhile places to visit. By using the Cable Car, it will take you to the top of Mount Mat Chincang with the height of 2000 feet. Langkawi Sky Bridge is one of the highest suspension bridge in the world.

PAYAR ISLAND MARINE PARK

This marine park is the only one located on the western side of Peninsular Malaysia and the only marine park with a floating platform in Southeast Asia. There are several tour operators that offer snorkelling and scuba diving packages to this marine park.

ISLAND HOPING

Island hoping is a visit to three islands by boat, these islands are 'Pulau Singa', 'Pulau Beras Basah' and 'Pulau Dayang Bunting'. This trip takes about 3 hours. The most interesting is a visit to 'Dayang Bunting Lake', located in 'Pulau Dayang Bunting'. This lake is a freshwater lake even though the border to the sea is only about 5 meters.

CHENANG BEACH - WATER SPORTS

Chenang Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Langkawi, it is facing the andaman sea and has a very beautiful sunset. Here we have some water sports operators offering several types of water sports such as para sailing, jet ski, banana boat, wind surfing, water ski and others. If you want to have fun with water sports, I suggest you come to Chenang Beach because they are less expensive than hotels.

MAHSURI TOMB

This mausoleum is located in 'Kampung Mawat'. In this village where mahsuri lived until she was sentenced to death for having defamed with other man in the absence of her husband. Before Mahsuri's death, she cursed Langkawi will not be safe for seven generations. The curse is over now, some people believe Langkawi has developed due to Mahsuri curse has ended. Come visit the Mahsuri Tomb to find out more about the story of Mahsuri.

CHENANG BEACH- NIGHT BAZAAR

Lately, bazaar located along the coastal road of Chenang Beach has become a tourist attraction. This bazaar consists of a row of shops and stalls that sell a variety of souvenirs. Seafood restaurants are also abundant here, the seafood in this restaurants is very fresh. This is because seafood such as fishs, prawns, mussels and crabs are the result of the local fishermen catch. There are also imported seafood such as lobsters and oysters. Cafe and Bar are also commonly found in Chenang Beach , most are owned by foreign nationals residing in Langkawi.

SUNSET CRUISE & DAY CRUISE

Sunset cruise and day cruise is one of my most recommended activities. This is because most of us rarely have the opportunity to board the luxury yacht. Sure this will give good memories during your holiday in Langkawi, especially if you come for your honeymoon.

 FISHING TRIP

Fishing is my favorite activity when I was in Langkawi. Indeed, the island of Langkawi is one of the most popular fishing spot among local anglers. There are many fishing locations you can go fishing and catch your first fish even if you do not have any fishing experience. This is because the government often make artificial reefs around the waters of Langkawi for fish breeding. If you bring your kids, I'm sure they will have fun too.

EAGLE SQUARE

Eagle Square is one of the landmarks of Langkawi that welcomes visitors arriving by ferry. It is located near the ferry terminal. Because the word Langkawi which means eagle, the government has built a statue of an eagle as a symbol and landmark of Langkawi. The best time to visit the Eagle Square is at sunset, you will be able to record the views of the beautiful background of the eagle and the sunset.

Nightlife in Langkawi

If you walk along the streets of Pantai Cenang or Tengah, you will notice how quickly the restaurants transform themselves from the day's sedate looks into colorfully illuminated bars & pubs and continue to get thronged by tourists as the evening progresses. And many of these bars remain open until late, some even till 3am.

Babylon Mat Lounge

This is a beach bar with a rustic village like setting and located on the beachfront of Pantai Cenang. It's open from 10am until late into night and serves lunch & dinner. Take a beer, listen to the live music, watch the lovely sunset from the sand, and then get immersed into the lively music & ambience. This is what sums up Babylon. All seating arrangements and furnishing is created using driftwood and recycled stuffs. You will literally have to sit on mats and on the sand. So don't go there with expectation of an upscale bar... it is not. But its musical bands and casual friendly, laid back ambience have been pulling crowd since years. Drinks are quite cheap and menu is nice. The burgers are really great and filling.

Little Lylia's Chillout Bar

This is another mid priced beach on Pantai Cenang offering candle lit tables with chairs rigth on the sand amidst swaying palms, with beautiful views of the ocean and complemented with live music in the evening. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but really comes alive after 9pm when the live band gets going. They have a barbecue stall which opens in the evening. The beer and other drinks are reasonably cheap. Although the food isn't that great, the ambience, closeness to water and the music is all what draws the crowd here.

Budaba Music Bar

They call it music bar because there is a bacjground music playing all the time... not to loud though. And once in a week, there is also a live musical performance to further add to the music scene in the bar. Otherwise this is another cozy bar in Pantai Tengah which is patronized mostly by the locals, returning tourists and even expats.

Debbie's Place Irish Pub

Located in Pantai Cenang, this is a great place to have a drink & dinner, while being thoroughly entertained by Debbie and Greg. The board outside reads 'Debbie's One Hand Wonder' and which is so true when you see her mixing cocktails with deft skills and showmanship with one hand. The food menu is also nice and has both snacks and main course meals.

Cappuccino House

Tucked in a corner of a road but in the main town, Cappuccino House is a great favorite to locals who like to spend an evening out with a cold beer while watching sports & movies on wide satellite screen and having chats with the local patrons. The prices are very reasonable and this is one of the few places in Kuah town that remains open till late hours.

Chillout Bistro & Sports Bar

It's located near the northern end (beginning) of Pantai Tengah and tucked between few other restaurants & eateries. Friendly owner and ambience, great LCD screens for watching sports channels till very late hours while having a drink, and also has a pool table. Quite favorite with the locals.

Charlie's Place Restaurant & Bar

This is a wonderful bar facing the Kuah harbor and the marina, and offering lovely view of the sunset. In the evening you will find several yachters and local patrons thronging the bar for a cocktail and friendly chats. While they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner offering International and Malay Cuisine, the main attraction here is the view of the water from a window side table. Over all a friendly place to have a quiet romantic dinner with cocktails.

Sunba Retro Bar

Located in the SunMall Complex in a village like setting, this retro bar is one of the favorites for the locals. The live band and the DJs would play the retro music of the 60s to 80s while you enjoy a cocktail, dance or even play a game of pool. The interior of the bar has been setup like a wooden traditional village house of Malaysia with all wooden furnishing and rustic looks. But overall it's an upscale bar.

Eagle Rock Cafe

This is the place for the youngsters where the hard rocks played by the DJs and the Live Bands continue till you can enjoy and respond. Well there is no dance floor here, but you can see hundreds of heads rocking to the music as every hand holds a glass of wine or spirit.

Beer Garden at Beach Garden Resort

This is an open bar on the beach (but roofed) and located inside the Beach Garden Resort at Pantai Cenang. The highlights here are the choice of beer including a range of German beer, nice array of cocktails & spirits, Swiss Chef preparing nice dishes, and of course wonderful view of the Cenang beach & the ocean as you are seated by a table with your feet on the sand. You get great sunset views from here.

Malaysian women

Malay women are a mix of dark straight hair, brown eyes and tanned skin. Their facial features look a cross betweeen Chinese and Indian. Most attractive Malaysian women have a sense of fashion. Malay ladies are feminin, a bit reserved but kind and lovely.
